This is the second clothing video we did.

This scenario was when all the service users at a old peoples home was going to bingo. Me,Fatima and Zoe was the carers.

Fatima walks in and says is everyone ready for bingo. The service users moaned because Fatima was blocking the tv and they were watching Emmerdale.

Zoe asked Ashleigh if she was looking forward to bingo and she replyed yes. She then asked if she wants her coat, scarf and hat.She asked what colour coat she wanted. Zoe then helped Ashleigh put on her Boots and asked if her foot was in the boot properly. Zoe then put Ashleigh’s coat on and did her buttons up. Zoe empowered Ashleigh by asking what she wanted and not just getting her outdoors clothes for her.

As you can see I was helping Maisy get dressed. She kept asking what was i doing because she couldn’t see as she was blind.I explained what I was doing. I asked if her foot was in the shoe because I didn’t want to force her foot in. I was being gentle with Maisy because I didn’t want to hurt her because I saw when I was putting on her coat that she was delicate. I empowered Maisy because I was putting Maisy’s coat on at her speed and not rushing her.

Fatima was helping Pauline, she didn’t realise she was deaf until she spoke to her and she didn’t reply. She then asked if Pauline was deaf and smile and signed yes. Fatima then signed and explained what was going on. and she was going bingo. She then asked if she wanted her coat and shoes. She asked if she wanted to put on her shoes herself but she replied that she couldn’t. So then Fatima put them on for Pauline. Fatima is empowering Pauline because she asked if she wanted to put her own shoes on instead of Fatima just putting them on.

I think i did well because i was talking in a good tone of voice, i was calm and I wasn’t rushing the elderly people and going at their speed.

This scenario was when all the service users at a old peoples home was going to bingo and me, Ashleigh and Maisy who are the carers had to help the service users get dressed. We explained to them what was happening and where we was going. As you can see in the video Maisy was talking to Fatima which was a bit confused of what bingo was. So Maisy explained what happened at bingo and once she explained it. The service user understood what it was about.

We had to ask the service users what they would like to wear so for example shoes, scarf, coat etc. First I asked Zoe if she was in pain and then I put her shoes on. Then i asked if Zoe wanted her scarf but she didn’t want it. Ashleigh asked Kealey what she wanted and she said shoes and cardigan, Ashleigh asked Kealey if she wanted help putting on her cardigan and she did, so as you can see from the video Ashleigh slowly helped Kealey up and put her arm in the cardigan because she wasn’t able to do it herself. Maisy gave Fatima a opinion of what she could have but she said she only wanted her shoes. Maisy encouraged Fatima to wear her coat and scarf as it is cold outside and she could get cold.

I empowered the Service users by letting them choose what to wear. I didn’t just get her clothes becase that is not empowering them. Instead i asked what they would want to wear. but if they didn’t want to wear there coat or scarf then i encouraged them by saying “are you sure because it could be cold outside”

I think i did well because i had a good tone of voice, i asked the service users what they would like in a polite manner and I wasn’t rude.

My Service user was a 50 year old women who has had a stroke and lost the left side of her body. The person playing the service user was Zynab and i was the care worker. i started off by talking to the service user by asking if she has had a good day how shes feeling etc. and then i asked if shes feeling hungry. she said she was. So i gave her a choice of what she can eat. such as cheese sandwich, ham sandwich, cereal etc. She chose ham and cheese sandwich,i asked if she wanted to make it herself nd she replyed no. So this is me making the sandwich in picture three. I then brung the sandwich over to the service user which is in picture 3. I asked the service user if she wanted a drink she replyed yes.i brung the apple juice over which she asked for. and she wanted to pour the juice in herself. which you can see in picture 1. Once the service user was eating the sandwich i started to ask questions such as what have you got up to today. what have you eaten today. Which i shouldn’t of done i should of waited till she has finished before asking the service user questions.

In this video I am the care worker and Maisy is the service user. Maisy is playing the part of a 70 years old woman.

In this scenario I had to get Maisy on to the wheelchair carefully from the seat where she was sitting, which was next to the wheelchair as she wanted to go to the post office to get her pension out. I had to be careful because Maisy had a hip replacement. So as I was helping her up I tried not to move her hips too much.

When i put Maisy in the wheelchair i put the feet rests and the side of the wheelchair in place, and then i asked Maisy if she was comfortable and she said she was. i gave Maisy her bag and things that she needed, took off the brake and we headed off to the post office.

When we got to the post office we went to the counter and Maisy asked the lady for her pension, she then gave her pension book to the lady. i asked if she wanted me to give her pension book to the lady but she said no and gave it to the lady herself. This is important because I was empowering Maisy by letting her give the pension book to the lady at the counter instead of me taking the book off Maisy and giving it to the lady myself.

When she gave the pension book back i asked if she wanted me to put it in her bag and she replied yes, so i asked Maisy to open her bag so i could put the pension book in her bag. We left the post office. It was important that she put the pension in the bag by herself because i’m giving Maisy control of her personal things so i empowered Maisy.

What i think i did well:

  • i asked if Maisy wanted help
  • i asked if Maisy was comfortable
  • empowered Maisy by letting her open her bag herself and give her pention to the lady at the counter at the post office.

Maisy my service user helped me up the step as I was on crutches. She empowered me as she was holding on my arm lighty and she wasn’t holding on me tightly. She let me go up the step on my own, instead of maisy forcing me up, instead she went at my own pace and didn’t rush me. I felt safe with maisy because if i feel up the step then i know i wouldn’t fall over as she was holding on to me.

 Communication

  •  verbal- A  B  C  D
  • Body Language - A B C D
  • Written - A  B  C  D

Should have used better body language because the care worker was sitting behind a table looking down at the child. She should have used appropriate language.

 Behaviour

  • Are they fair ? - A B C D
  • discipline - A B C
  • How they talk? - A B C D

The care worker wasn’t fair because she was being rude to the child by telling the child to go away and do it herself. The way she talked was bad as she kept swearing and she had a bad tone to her voice. It sounded like she was telling the child off.

 Personal qualities

  • Are they kind? - A B C D
  • Are they honest -  A B C D
  • Are they respectful? - A B C D

The care worker wasn’t kind to the child because she was shouting and swearing and telling the child to go to the toilet herself when she was asking for help. The care worker wasn’t honest because she kept saying she was busy when she wasn’t because she was talking to another care worker. The care worker wasn’t respectful because she wasn’t respecting what the child was asking for.

 Presentation

  • Are they dressed appropriately? A B C D
  • Appropriate language  A B C D
  • Personal hygiene  A B C D

The care Worker was Dressed Properly But her language was inappropriate as she was shouting and Swearing at the Service user. The Service user looked scared, this shouldn’t of happened if the care worker was angry then she should of walked away and came back when she is calm instead of taking it out on the service user.

The A B C D is the grades i give to the care worker for each area of the sections. A being as the best and D is being the worst. B C mean the care worker didn’t do that badly.
